Project Proposal
Each year, Central produces a full-scale mainstage musical production with students performing on stage, in the pit orchestra, and as part of the stage and tech crews. The grant will support the licensing, script and costume rentals, set and sound design equipment, choreographer’s fees, and other related expenses.
Amount Funded
$24,000
“Our goal in providing musical and play productions is to provide students opportunities to create, think, feel, engage in, and reflect on the human condition in a fun and safe environment. Students build their self-confidence, communication, and teamwork skills. They see a project progress from beginning to end and feel proud of the work they did to put a production together.”
Mr. Scott Mead, Director and CHS Drama Teacher
Students Impacted
150 students
Commitment to Closing the Opportunity Gap
Through grants from the Foundation, students are provided with high-quality rented costumes, moving light equipment, special-effects equipment, and specialized makeup. Funds also allow the school to purchase needed scenic and prop elements for productions like moving lights, fog machines, and a snow machine that were featured in The Wizard of Oz this fall. Having these resources and opportunities helps students on stage and backstage engage in a professional theatrical experience that is not often found in high school.
Translation to College and Career Readiness
When students have opportunities to access and master professional-grade production elements, they are a step ahead of other students entering the entertainment field and university programs because they have already learned so much from their theatrical experiences at Central.
“Central truly offers a unique opportunity for students interested in theater. The opportunity for students to walk into our theater and be mentored by teachers and alumni/guest artists with theatrical experience offers an unmatched environment of professionalism and top-tier education. The students and adults in the Theater Department offer an environment that is welcoming and lets students be who they are, making friends and developing relationships.”
