Project Proposal
Funds provided by the CHS Foundation will allow Central students to attend the Language Celebration at the University of Nebraska Omaha where students will learn about the university’s programs in Spanish, French, German, and Japanese as well as compete in a variety of events such as skits, song, dance and poetry recitation and creation that highlight their linguistic and cultural accuracy as well as creativity and presentation skills.
Amount Funded
$1,600
“Many of our students do not have the opportunity to see how they can effectively use their acquired language skills outside of the school environment. Others may never be able to travel to the places where the target language is spoken. With opportunities like the UNO Language Celebration, we can continue to make our CHS languages programs stand out from others in the district, the state, and the nation. It is thanks to events like these that Central High School maintains its diverse library of academic curriculum and opportunities for community involvement.”

Commitment to Closing the Opportunity Gap
Financial concerns are often barriers for students who would like to participate in events such as this, but because the CHS Foundation paid the enrollment fee for each student which included the event as well as entertainment, food, and awards, more students were able to attend.
Translation to College and Career Readiness
As a responsible educational institution, Central High focuses on creating responsible global citizens. This requires students to be multilingual and multicultural. Business and travel necessitate students to have experiential learning opportunities like these to prepare them.
“It was a great first-hand experience to see students from other schools and see not just how they’re using the language in class, but how they use it creatively.”
