Project Proposal
With the support from the CHS Foundation, this grant will ensure that any qualified vocal music student can participate in local, regional, and national honor choirs regardless of their family’s ability to cover the costs associated with the event.
Amount Funded
$4,000
Students Impacted
~40 students per year.
Commitment to Closing the Opportunity Gap
These opportunities are incredibly valuable for students. They return with new skills and confidence; however, for many, these experiences are unattainable due to the cost. The Foundation has ensured that all students have access to these opportunities by subsidizing trip costs such as registration fees, transportation and lodging which can be substantial – especially when the event is not local.
Translation to College and Career Readiness
Participation in honor choirs prepares students for college. Many of these events take place on college campuses and are directed by college professors. CHS students meet singers from other schools, build relationships and strengthen musical skills. Some events, like the All-State Chorus, have a college fair built in, where students can talk to admissions representatives from a variety of institutions in the region.
