Project Proposal
To expose students to hands-on biological testing that is useful and relevant to the real world through the execution of ELISA Lab Tests.
“This lab was a huge success. ELISA (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay) is an antibody-based test used to diagnose diseases and track pathogenic agents. The students performed a simulated bodily fluid exchange and then each student tested their own sample for the presence of the viral antigen. Students reported data to the class and then they worked in groups to work out how the disease was passed/spread, essentially playing the role of a contact tracer. This lab was done in connection to our cell communication unit and is very timely as this is one of the ways to perform a COVID-19 antibody test.”

Students Impacted
More than 120 students are involved across multiple biology classes.
Commitment to Closing the Opportunity Gap
Students were given the opportunity to perform a highly-professional, college and career-ready activity relevant to the current world around them. The freshman biology class is open to all students at all learning levels.
Translation to College and Career Readiness
Students learn various technical and scientific skills and work in a demanding environment as a team to produce relevant and accurate results together.
