Happy Father’s Day, Eagle Dads!

The Shorts

Dad: Chris Short, Class of 1992

Daughter: Savannah Short, Class of 2020

Savannah is proud to be a part of a Central Legacy! “My favorite memory of my Dad and Central was the day before my freshman year when he walked me through the building and explained ‘the sides’ to me.” She also said that she looked up to her father: “After his graduation my dad taught private piano lessons, took over the family business, married his high school sweetheart (my mom), had three kids, and is now a fantastic music teacher at Lewis and Clark Middle School!”

Savannah’s message to her Eagle Dad: “Happy Father’s Day, Dad! I am so lucky to have you, and I always appreciate your help and support in everything I do! Plus, your dad jokes are pretty funny.”

The Fields

Dad: James Russell Field, Class of 1936

Daughter: Joan Russell Field, Class of 1968

Joan said that in addition to being a part of a legacy of Eagles (her grandmother, Vera Walker Field, also graduated from Central), she is also proud that she and her father were both in choir at Central!

“Dad went to Amherst College and graduated in 1940. He began a Harvard Graduate Program for Business, but World War II started so he came back to Omaha. He married my Mom, Nene Cary (Class of 1936), on June 13,1942. He had polio as teenager, so he joined the Army working stateside and resided in Manhattan, KS for the duration of war. He and my Mom returned to Omaha with 2 daughters and he went to work at Field Paper Company, which his father, Clifton Russell Field, started in 1916. He worked his way up and took over the company. He and his partner, Ed Fitzsimmons, ran the company successfully until they retired in 1979. I always loved my middle name Russell because we had same initials.”

The Youngs

Dad: Reginald Young, Class of 1988

Daughters: Jordan Young, Class of 2015 and Courtney Young, Class of 2018

Son: Ian Young, Class of 2023

Jordan said, “Our Dad is a huge sports fan and he loves watching all of his kids play: my sister and I played softball for Central and did powerlifting, Ian runs track and does powerlifting. Our Dad always encourages us and he is our biggest cheerleader (besides our Mom of course)!”

“Our Dad graduated from Central High school in 1988 and went on to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He then went on to attend Law School, also at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He met our Mom, LaShawn Young, during a conference in Texas and they attended Law School together. They married and began their careers in law. Mom and Dad briefly worked in politics, working on the political campaign for Mike Fahey in 2000. Dad also worked briefly for the city in the Human Resources office as the Director of Human Relations. Not too long after Mom and Dad started their own practice, Young and Young Attorneys at Law, and continue to work together today!”

Jordan, Courtney, and Ian have a special message for their Dad: “Happy Father’s Day Dad, you are the best :)”

The Flemmings

Dad: John Flemming, Class of 1966

Daughter: Katherine (Katy) Flemming-Nilsson, Class of 1993

“My Dad has spent his years after Central High School working with students at various high schools and colleges including Creighton University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the College Board. He currently serves as a guidance counselor at Omaha Central High School. He was so wonderful about supporting me and all my activities including volleyball and cheerleading. He has always had a positive attitude about Central. I am so proud to be his daughter! Happy Father’s Day, Daddio! And Go Eagles!”

The Dineens

Dad: John P. Dineen Jr., Class of 1986

Daughter: Maeve Dineen, Class of 2021

Son: Finn Dineen, Class of 2024

“Some of the best memories of my Dad and I at Central include going to football games!” said Maeve Dineen. “After his graduation from Central, my Dad went to University of Nebraska at Lincoln and studied to become an architect. He now works at HDR Architecture, where he helped design TD Ameritrade Park for the College World Series. He also had the honor of designing Seemann Stadium for Central Football!”

Maeve has a special message for her Dad this Father’s Day: “Happy Father’s Day, Dad! Thanks for everything you do and everything you’ve taught me. Thanks for being the best dad ever. Love you!”

The McNichols

Dad: William L. “Larry” McNichols, Class of 1948

Daughter: Elizabeth “Eli” McNichols, Class of 1977

One of Eli’s memories of her Dad from her days at Central included him “telling me before I would take an exam, ‘Life is a test’ and that scared me even more!” Other great memories with her Dad included the time they both served on the CHS Alumni Association, she as the President and he as the Public Relations Officer.

“My Dad has an undergraduate degree from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard. He retired as a Colonial in the Army after serving in the Korean War. He was then the President of an advertising company. He will celebrate his 90th birthday next month! His mother was part of the Central Class of 1910 and his son was Class of 1975.”

Eli has a special message for her Dad this Father’s Day: “Rah, rah ree kick him in the knee! Rah, rah, rass kick him in … the other knee! Happy Father’s Day to a man with a great sense of humor and love!!”

The Dinnels

Dad: Charles Dinnel, Class of 1994

Daughter: Bella Dinnel, Class of 2023

Bella said one of her special memories of she and her Dad at Central is, “When he started the very first Girls Lacrosse Club at Central High in 2019! And now he’s the Head Coach!” She said when he was at Central he played baseball.

“Then he went on to play college baseball. He’s also great at golf and in 2002 played in the Omaha World-Herald Publinks Golf Tournament where he came in as runner-up and was featured on the front page of the Sports section!” He currently works for Securities America as a Technology Consultant.

Bella has a special message for her Dad this Father’s Day: “Thanks for always supporting me and motivating me to be better. Love you, Happy Father’s Day!”
