McClarnon has earned accolades during a three-decade Hollywood acting career, often playing roles reflective of his Native American heritage. Born to a Native American mother and Irish father, he grew up in a number of western states before landing in Omaha and at Central. He credits longtime Central drama teacher Peggy Stommes for helping infect him with the acting bug. After moving to Los Angeles in the early 1990s, he got his start with cameo roles on TV shows like “Murphy Brown” and “Baywatch.” That soon led to regular work in both TV and movies, McClarnon racking up more than 70 credits. He got his first big break in 2005 playing Running Fox in the Golden Globe-nominated “Into the West.” He played Chief Matthias in the long-running Netflix Western crime drama “Longmire,” and earned acclaim from the New York Times and Wall Street Journal in 2015 for his scene-stealing role as Hanzee Dent in FX’s “Fargo.” He had a lead role in the 2017 AMC Western series “The Son,” where he played a Comanche chief, and in 2018 played a recurring role on the critically acclaimed HBO series “West World.” His distinguished career continues today.
