A 1926 graduate of Central, Ruth Pilling returned in 1936 to join the faculty as a Latin teacher. She stayed until retirement in 1973 always as a Latin teacher, but in turns also teaching English, French, and Greek. She served as one of Central’s first counselors and as chairman of the foreign language department. She helped set up one of the city’s first language laboratories and established several new courses. She was awarded a summer John Hay Fellowship to Bennington College, Vermont, was a vice president and Nebraska state representative for the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary. She is held in great respect by her former students, many of whom still communicate with her about their accomplishments.
Ruth passed away in 2003 at the age of 95.
