The architect of Central’s year-round, covered courtyard, Rambo has made his mark designing educational facilities. Design experience on sixty schools preceded Rambo returning to CHS to lead three years of planning and extensive renovations. Original District funding focused on new windows and replacing stairway restrooms. Rambo’s vision differed. Rooted in his own experiences, he prioritized giving CHS a flexible, student-centered indoor plaza as its heart space to welcome and celebrate its diversity. Rambo developed Board consensus for added funding with unflinching support of Central’s administrators. With innovative engineering, a hallmark translucent roof and enhanced preservation, project completion in 1981 came without a day of education missed. Rambo was an architectural intern while at CHS and through UNL graduation. A recognized advocate for public education, his own firm, founded 1987, has been nationally recognized for educational design excellence, innovation and cost management. Rambo’s career includes developing public and voter support for improved schools designed to serve nearly 100,000 students. Rambo is also recognized for his work with veterans which commenced at CHS. He is the founding patron of area Honor Flights which have now taken thousands of veterans to Washington’s memorials.
