During his tenure as Central principal from 1919 to 1939, Joseph G. Masters served as chairman of the National Assoiation of School Principals, and in 1921 his efforts resulted in the creation of the National High School Honor Society. In those 24 years as Central’s principal , he promoted extra-curricular activities to assist the development of ethical character and to advance learning through responsibility. He organized the first YMCA in Oklahoma City during a three-year stint as high school principal there and continued to support YMCA activities in Omaha after his move to Central.
Joseph passed away in 1954.
