Fred Hawkins co-founded Hawkins Construction Company after graduating from the University of Nebraska, where he played football for the Cornhuskers. Under Fred’s leadership, Hawkins Construction became one of the top 200 contractors in the U.S. His firm has built miles of interstate, bridges, airports, and hundreds of buildings such as the Omaha City-County Building and the Advanced Airborne Command Building at Offutt Air Force Base. Fred has served on many civic, business, and foundation boards. He has been honored with a doctorate degree and membership in both the Nebraska and Omaha Business Hall of Fames. He also was awarded two honors from the University of Nebraska: the Business Leadership Award and Entrepreneur of the Year.
Fred passed away in 2015 at the age of 88.
