Richard William Pfaff is a professor of history at the University of North Carolina, a noted scholar of medieval liturgy, and an ordained Episcopal priest. In 2000, he was elected a Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America for his various published works. The presentation lauds his work which “brings the study of medieval liturgy to bear on literary studies, art history, and musicology and richly deserves its appreciation by scholars who work in these disciplines.” Pfaff holds a B.A. from Harvard and a Ph.D. and Doctor of Divinity from Oxford. His publications include six books and numerous articles in professional journals, book reviews, contributions to reference works, and academic papers. Pfaff lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and regularly returns to England for research.
Richard passed away in 2016 at the age of 79.
