Dr. Jerome Hirshmann worked with Principal Dr. Moller and Central graduate Donald R. Weber in the 1980’s to create the Central High School Scholarship Endowment Fund which in calendar year 2002 had grown to $330,000. He also established the Hirshmann Prize for Teaching Excellence at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. After attending Omaha’s Yates Grade School and Central he graduated from Creighton University and UNMC. For three years of World War II he was an Army physician in both the Aleutian Islands and Europe earning the Bronze Star medal for his service. Dr. Hirshmann served on the Board of Governors at the Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois for 30 years and was a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. In 1985 he retired and now resides in Winnetka, Illinois and Palm Beach, Florida.
Jerome passed away in 2009 at the age of 92.
