Dr. Herbert (Herb) Reese, a Lincoln cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, has directed much of his energy toward improving the quality and reducing the cost of medical services. A 1965 graduate of UNMC, Dr. Reese served on the first open heart team for the U.S. Army Medical Service. As a private practitioner in Lincoln for 26 years, he was affiliated with the Nebraska Heart Institute, retiring from active practice in 1993. He is past president of the Nebraska Foundation for Nebraska Medical Association, and the Nebraska Heart Association. Dr. Reese received the CHAD Lincoln Health Citizen of the Year Award in 1985 and served on the UNMC Board of Counselors. Dr. Reese and his wife Virginia have eight children and 24 grandchildren.
Herb passed away in 2010 at the age of 81.
