Nationally and internationally recognized for both his teaching and research in the field of economics and having prepared himself for a career in economics with academic degrees from both Harvard (B.S.) and Columbia (Ph.D.), Dr. Harriss devoted his life to the study of economics and the impact of economic theory on related fields, including taxation, government fiscal policy, economic development, and public finance. In addition to lifelong teaching at Columbia, he was invited to teach at other prestigious universities including Stanford, Yale, Cal. Berkley, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, as well as Cambridge. Dr. Harriss also received Fullbright professorships which took him to the Netherlands, England, and France. He has served as an expert witness, a conference presenter and lecturer, an economics consultant and advisor, and has been a member of many professional organizations. While teaching and consulting, Dr. Harriss also wrote several books and a myriad number of articles on various economics-related topics, including inflation, land management, tax policy, fiscal policy, budgeting, and economic development. For his lifetime of work, Dr. Harriss was awarded an honorary degree from Columbia, a Phi Beta Kappa honorary, and was selected as a Life Member of the International Institute of Public Finance.
C. Lowell passed away in 2009 at the age of 97.
