Jed became the first Omaha native and Central graduate to play in the National Hockey League. Jed first led the Omaha Lancers in scoring and won a league championship with his brother, Jake. He earned a scholarship to Michigan, where he served as team captain for two years and helped the Wolverines to three straight Frozen Fours. The defensive-minded forward made his NHL debut in 2003 with the New York Rangers. In 2004 and 2007, he earned the Rangers’ Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award after returning to the ice from a serious health condition that nearly ended his career. He played eleven years professionally, including 362 NHL games with New York, Nashville, San Jose, and Minnesota, recording 23 goals and 32 assists, and lining up for 384 games in the American Hockey League, recording 68 goals and 107 assists. He was inducted into the Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.
