Larry Station exemplifies the phrase “outstanding scholar-athlete.” While at Central, Larry participated in football and track. In football he was twice selected for All-state honors, and All-American honors as a senior. He also excelled in track, winning the state championship in the shot put his junior and senior years and the state championship in the discus his senior year. He currently holds the Nebraska Class A records in both the shot put and discus, and his discus throw of 202 feet his senior year was the longest throw in the nation. Upon graduation, Larry enrolled in the University of Iowa where he began establishing records and garnering honors while playing linebacker for the Hawkeyes. He is the only player in Hawkeye history to lead the team in tackles for four consecutive years. He holds the Iowa record for career tackles with 492. Larry was a three-time All-American and All-Big Ten linebacker selection, as well as a two-time Academic All-American linebacker selection. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, earned a Master’s of Business Administration degree at Washington University in St. Louis, and published a book.
