Dorothy McGuire has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a star of both stage and screen. She received an Academy Award nomination for best actress in 1947 for her role in the film, “Gentleman’s Agreement”. She got her start on stage in 1930 at the Omaha Community Playhouse opposite Henry Fonda when she was 13. She played summer stock in 1934 and got her break on Broadway in 1938 in “Our Town”. Three years later she starred in “Claudia”, also on Broadway, and in 1943 made her film debut in the Hollywood adaptation of that play. She starred in a total of 27 feature films through 1973 including “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn”, “The Enchanted Cottage”, “The Spiral Staircase”, “Old Yeller”, “Swiss Family Robinson”, “Friendly Percase”, and “Three Coins in the Fountain”. She continued playing TV roles into th 80’s. She lives in Beverly Hills, California.
Dorothy passed away in 2001 at the age of 85.
