Identifying Aaron “Buddy” Marcus as the “superstar” in both the theory and practice of information-oriented graphic design and its application to computer graphics is an indisputable fact. Aaron’s creativity, vision, and understanding, as seen in the innovative design work produced by his company, Aaron Marcus and Associates (AM+A), in the fields of cross-cultural communication, graphic design, information design, semiotics, symbol design, typography, mobile user-interface design, and information visualization have set the gold standard for all others in this field. These software developments became major navigational keys to opening the world of computers to everyone. His company’s creativity and expertise have been tapped by many large corporations, including AOL, Microsoft, Samsung, and Motorola, to name only a few. Aaron is an inductee in the Graphic Design Hall of Fame, a Fellow of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and a member of the CHI Academy (Computer Human-Interaction), being the first graphic designer ever to be selected. In addition, Aaron has found the time to write six books and over 250 articles, and he has always recognized the importance of his education in the success he has achieved, at CHS where he was Editor-in-Chief of the CHS Register an at Princeton and Yale.
