Steve’s career as a journalist began at CHS as sports editor of the Register. He attended University of Missouri school of Journalism, and went on to report, write and research for the Columbia Missourian, Kansas City Star, Trenton Times, Boston Globe, WHDH-TV, Sporting News, Boston Herald. and ESPN. His investigation of unscrupulous lending practices in Boston in the late 1908s led to home ownership for thousands of low-income families. Later in his career Steve wrote books. Of historical importance to CHS was his second book, The Rhythm Boys of Omaha Central: High School Basketball at the ’68 Racial Divide. His story of Central’s struggle a time of upheaval and change, he said, was told to honor his family and the teachers and students who helped him come of age.
