Coming from Columbian Grade School, Ann Dickinson Mactier was a National Honor Society graduate of Central where she and her future husband, Allan Mactier, were editors of the Central High Register. She earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Chicago and two graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. For the past two decades she has been elected to both the Omaha School Board and the Nebraska Board of Education. She has been the driving force in Omaha and Nebraska to change how we teach beginning reading to children. Thus earning her nickname, “The Reading Lady.” She continues to work tirelessly to improve educational opportunities for all Nebraska children as the Omaha based Vice President of the Nebraska State Board of Education.
Ann passed away in 2022 at the age of 100.
