A 1984 graduate, Maurtice A. Ivy is noteworthy as a high school, college, and professional athlete. She is presently assistant basketball coach and Internship Coordinator at UNO. She was the highest scoring player for her four years at Central, putting 1,928 points on the board. She started all four seasons in high school, finishing with fifty straight victories and two Class A Championships. The World Herald named her high school athlete of the year in 1984. In addition to her basketball prowess, she earned six gold medals in track, helping her team win the two state championships. Her college career resulted in her being Big Eight player of the year in 1988, Kodak All-American in 1987 and 1988, and a member of the All Big Eight team in 1986, 1987, and 1988. Maurtice earned her B.A in Communications from the University of Nebraska Lincoln and her M.A. in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from UNO. Beyond her athletic and academic life, Maurtice has been in the forefront of community service and youth development at Head Start and the YWCA. She was an inductee into the Nebraska Black Sports Hall of Fame, the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1998, and the Omaha Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
