Project Proposal
To expand the creative processes and products in digital media and graphic design classes, the Foundation has purchased a new 3-D printer to enhance student learning in these courses at Central.
Amount Funded: $3,200
“Digital Media and graphic design are growing fields that are embracing and using technology. This is going to be a key element in taking things from the graphic world into the physical, and I would like to thank the CHS Foundation for their generosity in helping our students be on the cutting edge of this technology.”

Commitment to Closing the Opportunity Gap
Students are always looking for outlets for their creative energy. Digital media and graphic design classes help them explore a rapidly expanding area that offers several career paths. Because the technology needed to study this field and create final projects can be expensive, it isn’t widely available. Items like 3-D printers spark students’ imaginations for what might be possible. CHS graphic design teacher, Mr. Jonathan Franta says, “Students play games and want to recreate what they see and what they enjoy, and every time students find out I have had the mini 3D printers, they all want to print something and learn how to use them. The key is providing an opportunity for a student and then teaching them how they utilize it in class as well as life.”
Translation to College and Career Readiness
This equipment will enhance learning opportunities as students grow in their ability to navigate and create a whole new world of design. Model making, product design, engineering, architecture, and even the medical field have all embraced 3D printers and 3D design to test out products. “Giving students a chance to start early and understand the programs is extremely helpful,” Franta said. “Careers in prototyping, 3D design and understanding the 3D world of computing and design are needed for creation of apps, games, visual design, and a lot more. Design itself addresses the need to solve technical challenges and find solutions in the graphic realm as well as moving from the graphic form to a physical product.”
“Thank you CHS Foundation! It is so amazing that my art can be scanned and then laser engraved on wood!”
