Oberman has put his math, science, and writing background from Central to use, making his mark in computers, technology, and artificial intelligence. He earned a B.S. from the University of Iowa and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University, all in electrical engineering. His doctoral research developed algorithms and hardware designs that accelerate computer calculations. After graduation, he worked as a design engineer at several companies before joining NVIDIA in 2002, where he played a pivotal role in developing GPUs for 3D graphics, gaming, and AI. He is currently Vice President of GPU Hardware Engineering at NVIDIA, leading a large engineering organization. His work has helped power the widespread use of AI technologies, including large language models like ChatGPT. He has served as a consulting professor at Stanford, coauthored a book, and chaired several international conference program committees in his field. He holds over 55 U.S. patents and is an IEEE Fellow.
